These pictures capture so much of a part of my life that I don't talk about very much.
I was raised in a musically-focused household, and it is still one of the most important and driving forces of my life.  I am ever grateful to both of my parents for their love of music, pursuit of beauty, and involving me and culturing me in the phenomenon that is music.

Has it really been two weeks?
Well hey.
My shameless plug for following me on instagram will fit in perfectly with my excuses for not blogging.
@nglarson!  Do it!  I'm alive and kickin' via other social media.

These last two weeks have been crazy.
First, I got sick.
Then, I lost my job.  Which has never happened to me ever.
Then I got sicker because I cried a lot (typical) and stopped sleeping.
Then I got over it, and got a second interview with a big girl job.
Amidst these things, school heated up and I got lost in the papers.

AND THEN there was this weekend.
I had surprise-rented a cabin in Leavenworth back in January for Valentine's Day with Matt.
And here we are, doing 5 hours of homework together in this beautiful little cabin, enjoying our own hot tub, and heading off to eat some Bavarian meals.
It's a much needed weekend.

Friday friday.

[blowfish wedges // romy dress // some boutique in San Fran coat // nordstrom watch]

I spent a lot of my day staring at my calendar.  I have this little "semester on a page" portion of my planner and I color in a square each day with a highlighter (each row has its' own color, of course).  Whenever a week fills up, my little heart grows legs, arms, and a booty and shakes it all about.  So here's to Fridays, the speed with which they arrive, and a weekend full of fun.

OH.  And if you live in Salem, come to my house on Sunday at 3:30pm!  I am selling what I think has amounted to more than half of my closet.  #movingprep #springcleaningcameearly #dohashtagsworkonblogs?

budget cuts to life and stuff.

[UO boots, Grace&Lace bootsocks, Gap cardi, Nordstrom vest, Target scarf, H&M men's section beanie]

Don't know if you noticed, but taxes went up.  If I was super super poor, I'd probably be thrilled about this.  The reality is, Matt and I now make about $1,000 less per month.  Also he makes less money this year than he did last year.  So the unavoidable conversation came up when we sat down to do our monthly budget - we need to cut spending somewhere.  But where?  That was my question.  It was one of those "playing dumb" type of questions (you know.  when you know the hard cold truth but aren't quiiiite ready to admit it). So we looked at any possible fixed cost that we could cut down on (i.e. TV, gas, groceries, mortgages, etc.)  Who was I kidding?  We had to cut down on extra spending.

We have this system.  It's called "cash cards", and they exist at Wells Fargo and probably other banks.  It's essentially envelope budgeting on a card, and it works great.  It has helped reduce our spending by hundreds each month since we started it.
But now, we get to cut down the monthly allotment on those cash cards significantly.
But now, I can only order tea (which by the way is free for me) from the coffee shop in the morning instead of treating myself to something else once in a while.
Now, I have made it a goal to not go shopping this entire month.  Because I have $12.  And if I'm shopping, my priorities are whack.
Now, I really can only shop at Winco and not get the extra wonderful gluten-free treats that I love from natural health food stores.

So since I have been feeling so discouraged with all my old clothes (most of which are summer clothes because I actually made money in the summer and went shopping) and thus wearing jeans, converse, and a sweatshirt every day... today I decided that hey.  There's gotta be something in my closet that I can layer and make it look halfway decent.  And this was the final product.

The lesson in this season for me has been to learn to feel confident from the inside alone.  Since that's so easy for a girl....

So Matt and I are moving at the end of June/beginning of July.
This is kind of a big deal because I've lived in Salem since THIRD GRADE.
I don't know what to expect.
I've never had to make new friends and learn new streets,
find a new coffee shop or grocery store,
not be in school (okay but PTL for this),
etc etc etc.

The task of re-decorating.
It is so exciting but let's be honest, I have no idea what I'm doing.

it's saturday at 10:30pm!!!

Tonight we had a little chamber choir soprano get-together.  Things I learned:

1. Talking about graduation with other people who are going to graduate is WAY more exciting than just thinking about it.

2. Mario kart Wii is hard.

3. If one of your soprano sisters offers to have their roommate guy friend give you advice on whether to get a boob job or not... you should probably take him up on that just because it's awkward and makes for a great story later in life.

4. If your CRAZY AWESOME but also extremely intense choir director gives you Friday off because... wait for it.... because it was sunny.... I know right!! he is the best.  This is somewhat unrelated... but still worth sharing.

Anyway.  Here's some pics.
Hope you're having a great weekend!
Also if you happen to have any remedies for ears-being-so-stuffed-they-are-ringing-and-making-you-feel-nauseous.... I'm all ears.  So to speak.  I can't even hurrrrr a thing except bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
