may or may-not monday

From the blog of Mrs. Mindi Dunn I once again present to you....

May or may-not Monday:  where you can divulge in the secrets of life's mishaps without feeling like a failure.  So go on... own up.  I may have...

I may or may not have had a piano audition on Sunday that I only practiced a total of about 15 minutes for all summer.  Can you say slacker?

I may or may not have had an opera audition TODAY that I practiced a total of about 1 hour for all summer.  Seeing a pattern here....

I may or may not have worn the SAME outfit 3 days in a row.  It doesn't sound so bad on its own.... but throw in camping 1 night, no showers, and traveling for about 15 hours of those 3 days?  Yep.

I may or may not have made a blackberry cobbler and then proceeded to eat almost all of it myself.

I may or may not have been unnecessarily mean to my husband over the 3 days that I was wearing the same outfit and traveling... saying things like "stop it." when he was lovingly putting his hands through my hair, telling him "you are driving me nuts" (this has never been said in our household. EVER. I am so disappointed it came out of my lips) and other things of that nature.  Poor guy.  Good things he REEEEEALLYy loves me.

I may or may not have eaten cereal (honey nut cheerios) for almost every meal for the past couple days.  SO good.  America's #1 favorite cereal, by the way.... check the box....

I may or may not be in a "who can spend less money on extra stuff this month" competition with my sister-in-law.  Hopefully I'm winning...

I may or may not be in denial about school starting tomorrow. Can't I just have a kid or two and call it good for the rest of my life? Or 3? Or 4?  Or 6?  *sigh* Alas, I cannot.  Friggin' school.

I may or may not think about what to write on these blasted Monday blogs that I've decided to do ALL WEEK and then still feel like nothing exciting enough has happened to write about... except eating cobbler and not showering....

You may or may not want to share YOUR mishaps and life secrets as well..... :)

Honey Girl Blackberry Cobbler [GF]

So delicious.  This is a perfect summer dessert dish!

You will need:
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 sticks of butter (one room temperature, one chilled)
1 HEAPING tablespoon of Honey Girl Honey (or any raw, un-pasturized and un-filtered honey will do)
Blackberries (lots!!!)
2 cups Bob's all purpose baking flour
1/4 cup Chilled water

Step 1: make the schmear.  [I got this schmear recipe from my sister in NY.  It was originally intended for a pineapple upside down cake recipe but I used it for the cobbler as well.]

Combine the brown sugar, room temperature stick of butter, and honey together with a mixer.        Add a small dash of salt.

Step 2:  Smear your schmear into a pyrex baking pan, like so (you probably won't need all of it.  Half to 3/4 is plenty)

Step 3:  Wash your blackberries!

Step 4:  Dump your blackberries into a new mixing bowl and mix them with 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of granulated white sugar. YUM.

Step 5: Dump your sugar coated blackberries onto your schmear.

Step 6:  Make your crumble.  Mix the flour and chilled butter together with your hands.  Make sure you are not 'clumping' but 'crumbling'.

These pictures show the motion to use with your hands to avoid bunching your mixture.

Step 7:  Add your chilled water.  It is important that it is chilled and not just semi-cold tap water!  Now you can make it into bunches.  Scrunch away!

Step 8:  Create some crumble and layer it onto your blackberries.

Step 9:  Cook at 415 degrees for about an hour.  Let it cool on the counter after, and stow in the fridge!  The next morning is when it's best after it's firmed up a bit.

First of all, these wedges were $12.48 at Target.  Did I mention that is a STEAL and I wear them every day?

Awesome.  Next.....

Every year my mom's side of the family gathers in Buena Vista Colorado (at 8,000 ft, with no oxygen btw).  Last year we hiked the 14-er Princeton and plan to tackle Huron this August.

So far, it has been the best Colorado vacation I've had yet.  Why?  Because I have a husband of course!  Although he took off yesterday to go backpacking for 4 days.  Thus the post.  Time-filler.  Is that bad?  I do love my family.... but what is one to do for an entire day without one's husband?   Hmmmm.

may or may-not monday

I got this idea from Mrs. Mindi Dunn.  I love reading her posts on Mondays about all the mis-haps and may or may-nots of a mom's life.  I get a good laugh every time and am always excited for the next week.

My may or may-not list is modest this week, as it is my first time.  From the blog of Mindi Dunn I present to you...

May or may-not Monday:  where you can divulge in the secrets of life's mishaps without feeling like a failure.  So go on... own up.  I may have...

I may or may not have had popcorn and yogurt for dinner this past week.

I may or may not have stood on my back patio making obnoxious raccoon noises trying to talk to our neighborhood friend, while eating said popcorn and yogurt.

I may or may not have told my husband recently that I am "just the type of person who likes to be at home...".  This is my excuse for going home early from EVERYthing.  I told him a few days later that "I'm just kind of a social person and would much rather be out than at home...", as I tried to convince him to come shopping, to the pool, run through sprinklers, hit the beach, go to the bite&brew, and see Harry Potter 7 pt. 2 ALL IN ONE DAY.  By the way, we did almost all of those things.  In two days.

I may or may not have eaten almost an entire medium sized gluten free pizza from Figaro's, and washed it down with a home made chai packed full of sugar.  Mmmm.

I may or may not have almost talked myself into buying a new swimsuit at Old Navy.  Then when I got home with the hubs, I put on an old swimsuit that I hadn't worn in about 5 years, which is somewhere between the 5th and 6th swimsuit he's seen me in this summer.

I may or may not be leaving for Colorado tomorrow..... for 8 days.... ahh vacation.  I may or may not love it.
